Wicker Cleaning
A stiff brush that’s not too rough is good for cleaning wicker. You must use a minimum amount of water and let the excess water run off. It is best to clean your furniture at an angle so water does not collect. If you must use a garden hose do it in quick spurts and then dry with towels. You should use a bowl with water for the actual cleaning. Any mild detergent is fine. Rinse with a hose to finish.
Refinishing
Most wicker furniture is painted white. You can touch up painted wicker with a primer coat and then a final finish with spray paint. This usually covers most scuffs and chips. If your wicker has a clear finish just a repaint of the clear finish should be all that’s needed. If your wicker is staind then retouch with oil stain and then the clear finish.
If you must use
a liquid stripper any brand will do. The wicker will absorb the stripper and
may become loose. As stated earlier it is best not to move the wicker out of
pattern because as it dries it tightens and returns back to its original shape.
You can then use a stiff brush to take off the paint. Wicker will not be able
to handle any scraping so make sure the stripper has done its job before scrubbing
with a brush. Once you are done stripping let dry. Then you can use spray paint
or lacquer to refinish. Avoid polyurethane paint since wicker is flexible and
would cause chipping.
